ADS is an eps-based delivery system that has been around for over 10 years but is now being phased out in favour of PDF-based systems.
Fonts are embedded into the EPS file and an electronic instruction form is also sent to the publication. There is no flightchecking of files other than checking that the fonts have embedded properly.
Some publications will still accept open files sent via ISDN, but once again there is no flight-checking involved.
With an increasing number of companies using FTP and email to send larger files, the usage of ISDN and ADS is beginning to decline.
